In one of the more captivating turnabouts in recent memory, Tweedsmuir Park has been saved from development.
Here are those who voted to save the park … Mayor Al McDonald, Councilors Maroosis, Vrebosch-Merry, Lawlor, Mayne, and Anthony.
Interesting enough, the pivotal vote, no pun intended, belonged to Mike Anthony. Clearly that park would not have been saved if it were politically impossible to change one’s mind as a result of public pressure.
The effort to save this park should be heartening to those who would organize to for the purpose of affecting change in the community. An election was dominated by a grassroots issue, and city hall has been moved as a result.
