Re: “For U.S. it all boils down to oil” – Eric Margolis (The Nugget, August 9, 2010)
This is a case of the The Nugget printing something that does not serve the right wing agenda. It happens, and when it does, I feel compelled to point it out.
Eric Margolis has written an article that debunks Obama’s claim that he is pulling combat troops out of Iraq and winding the occupation down. They went there for oil, and they will stay there for oil. It’s pretty much that simple. They did not build the largest embassy in the history of embassies just because they planned to topple Saddam, who had kicked out big oil companies so that Iraqis could enjoy the benefits of the natural wealth their land has to offer, and then leave. The Americans started building extensive, expensive and permanent military bases in Iraq shortly after they arrived there… strategically around the oil.
Margolis correctly points out that the sock puppet that America sells as Iraq’s government will not last very long without the American military to back it up, as there is very little Iraqi support for this puppet regime. Obama has no intention of leaving Iraq to Iraqis regardless of what the media trumpets on his behalf.

Re: “Being nice could cost us our lives” – Monte Solberg (The Nugget, August 9 , 2010)
Publishing Margolis’ article does not make up for this racist diatribe designed to fan the flames of xenophobia and justify the violence we are doing to the people of the Middle East in their own countries.
Monte Solberg wants us to be on guard against Islamic people and writes, in reference to Muslim immigrants that they “hate freedom and equality and pass that loathing on to the next generation.”
He justifies our aggression in Afghanistan by saying that “our soldiers are sacrificing their lives to lift the scourge of repression in Afghanistan.” If we are in Afghanistan to liberate the oppressed there, why did we sit idly by while Hamid Karzai, a CIA trained puppet of America, passed a law legalizing rape? That kind of exposes our motives does it not?
In rallying Canadians against the Muslims half way around the world, and the Muslims in our very own neighbourhoods, Solberg, who like Lorrie Goldstein, also of the Toronto Sun, is a racist and uses his podium in Sun Media newspapers such as The Nugget to promote hatred of Muslims. That much is clear.
I don’t disagree with him that Muslim women should lift their veil anytime they are required to show identification in order that their faces can be cross references with their picture, but I don’t agree that the reason for this is that Muslims are evil. The Nugget softens the titles of many of these columns from the Toronto Sun, but the Sun title of this same article is: ”Niceties won’t protect us from evil”. The evil he is referring to is Muslim immigrants. I believe that muslim women need to lift their veil when they show ID because everyone in Canada is equal, not because Muslims are evil.
