It’s Cocktail Time!!!
Sometimes, when someone deserves a Molotov for their actions, you gotta give ‘em a Martini for the audacity of those same actions. Conservative MP, Tom Lukiwski, is such a one. During the grilling of former Conservative MP Rahim Jaffer for his allegedly corrupt dealings, he said: ““Do you believe or do you understand that your actions have tarnished the reputation of politicians from all parties?” It is very generous of this Conservative to share his party’s disgrace with the other political parties, that currently have no influence to peddle, but in reality, Conservative corruption only tarnishes the reputation of Conservatives. Have a Martini anyway Tom, you crazy bastard.
Talking about crazy bastards, how about a Martini for Matt Stone and Trey Parker? It is really not wise to bait Muslims by depicting their prophet Muhammad, and it is even less wise to depict him while mocking him. People get killed for less. A case in point would be Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh who was slain for offending Muslims in a far less egregious way. Matt Stone and Trey Parker have objected to Comedy Network’s censoring of their show after they received death threats. The least we can do is to send these guys a Martini for putting their lives on the line for the sake of free speech.
While we’re on the subject, we may as well send a Molotov to every single Muslim who has not shown contempt for those in their religion who believe that free speech, no matter how repugnant to them, justifies murder. It is incumbent upon, not only reasonable people, but religious people as well, to show respect for others, and if that means refraining from depicting the prophet Muhammad, then so be it. However, speech should not result in death. When an identifiable group of people pre-emptively threatens death to anyone that insults them, well… .. they’re kinda tempting people to do it. In fact, I’m tempted to post a picture of Muhammad banging a camel with this article to prove a point. Instead, I’m just going to hope that Muslims decide to get real serious about correcting the fanatical element within their faith.
Just so that it doesn’t seem like Muslims are being singled out, a round of Molotovs for the Pope, and Israel. The Pope needs to turn in his funny hat, and go straight to jail for his role in covering up child abuse. Israel needs to retreat to within its 1967 borders, and thereby end its illegal occupation of Palestine. How’s that for fair?
Another Molotov goes out to Sarah McLaren who wrote a letter to the Nugget editor decrying North Bay as on the brink of tumbling into the abyss. She seems to think a curfew might be appropriate to curb violence in our fine city. Clearly she craves more government control over her life, so perhaps she might consider emigrating to Iran, where the authoritarian regime would make her feel real safe and cozy. Apparently she has “never seen North Bay this bad’, and she also points out that “It’s terrible when I can’t even cross safely at a cross walk anymore”. Well, if I was getting creamed by a car every time I attempted to cross the street, I would definitely start looking both ways, and only proceed once I have assured myself that I would make it across the street alive. Sarah might be well advised to do the same, and sound the alarm only when the cars that seem to be running her over all the time are doing it while driving on the sidewalk.
A Martini for Darlene Jamieson and Rob Graham for their fund-raising efforts geared toward funding children who cannot afford to register for things like music lessons, hockey or swimming lessons. It is people like this that make our community worth living in.
A Molotov to Dalton McGuinty for capitulating to the demands of a few parents, who have their sensibilities in a twist over the new sex education curriculum. No one in enlightened circles is debating whether or not information is useful to children in terms of helping them make intelligent sexual decisions. If parents want their children to go without this information they should have the right to do two things: 1) pull their kids out of the classroom while this subject is being taught to other kids, and 2) pay the doctor’s bills for any STD acquired by their children or abortions required by their children before the age of 18. If they want to keep their kids ignorant, they should not expect the rest of society to pick up the tab when their kids screw up.
