STORE OWNER HAS A PASSION FOR FASHION

There is an exciting new presence in the downtown business community. Trista’s Trinkets & Boutique has recently opened at 118 Main Street West and is causing a buzz among the fashion conscious of North Bay. This second hand clothing store is hip, eclectic, and has a young vibe. You’ll know it by the smooth house beats that constantly emanate from its open door.

At 26 years old, Trista Luxton is young by entrepreneurial standards. She chose to open a business because it is the best way she could imagine to share her passion for clothing. She has always been into fashion, and tends to dress somewhat eccentric. The store allows Trista to embrace her originality and creativity as it applies to fashion. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs it is natural for her to own her own business. In fact, she says it’s in her blood.

She chose downtown North Bay because she feels it has an artsy, college kind of feel, and she finds people to be quite open minded here. Trista really likes the downtown vibe and she said a lot of other business owners have come in to introduce themselves and show support for her new venture. Currently, Trista’s hours of operation are as follows: Monday and Tuesday from Noon to 5 PM, Wednesday from 11 AM to 6 PM, Thursday and Friday from 11 AM – 7 PM, and Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM.

Having business owners in the family, she knew what she was getting into by opening a store. It’s a huge amount of work. The interior decorating, painting, and all of the other preparations for opening day were an enormous pile of tasks. One of the things she’s already learned about operating a business is that there is always something to learn. Although Trista doesn’t have a formal education in business, she has an interesting variety of credentials and experience that she’s able to draw on. She has a diploma in radio/tv journalism, experience as an insurance broker, and being a marketing manager.

When asked what advice Trista would give other young people opening a business Trista says, “Follow your passion. Don’t be scared. Don’t let people with their negative opinions alter what your desires are, or what you want to do in life. A lot of people told me not to do this, but I thought this is what I want to do, so why let them tell me not to? You don’t know unless you try.” Trista has her fingers crossed, hoping that she’s able to achieve her business goals, but anyone that enters her store would never doubt her chances of success.
