Re: “Jew haters don’t always make it obvious” – Lorrie Goldstein (Nugget Mar 4, 2010)
This is perhaps the most despicable opinion piece I have seen in the Nugget in quite some time. Here is a link to it from the Toronto Sun website, and … it goes without saying that if the Nugget, our local paper of record is pulling its opinion pieces from the bottom of the journalistic barrel, The Sun, we in North Bay are being deprived.

Lorrie Goldstein, a racist, is accusing pro-Palestinian demonstrators of being racists. Furthermore, he says that even if people turning out to for demonstrations during Israeli Apartheid Week don’t behave like racists, and don’t say anti-Semitic things, doesn’t mean they are not anti-Semites because anti-Semites keep their anti-Semitism secret. I suppose now the burden of proof is upon every person who feels for the plight of Palestinians to prove that they are not “Jew-haters”, and if they aren’t convincing enough, it is to be assumed that they are “Jew-haters”. Hmmm…
… and I mentioned earlier that Goldstein is a racist. In his column he contrasts how Jews are handling this perceived affront with how Muslims would handle a similar affront, and in the meantime paints Islam as being a bunch of suicide bombers who would behead University administrators for allowing criticism of an Arab state. You can’t get much more racist than that.
Israel, in its actions toward Palestinians, according to the UN, conforms to the UN definition of a system of Apartheid. South African Nobel Prize winner Desmond Tutu has explicitly referred to Israel’s actions in the occupied territories as Apartheid, and he should be considered an authority on what Apartheid is. Throwing out accusations of Jew-hatred and anti-Semitism aimed at anyone who acknowledges this fact is not an effective denial of this fact.
Shame on Lorrie Goldstein for his racism, his feeble mean-spirited argument, and shame on the Nugget for publishing it.
