April 1, 2009

TRIES TO FLUSH EVIDENCE

On the 31st of March shortly before 8 PM it is alleged that a motor vehicle was stolen from a local North Bay bar.
Csts. Greg Randall and Steve Brown of the North Bay Police were called to the scene and were led to the washroom of this same bar where a male individual was in the process of attempting to flush down the vehicle keys.
Neil MALLALEY 27 years old of No Fixed Address is charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle over $5000., Possession of a Controlled Drug, 2 Counts of Breach of Recognizance, and Obstruct Police. He was kept in custody for a bail hearing.

STOLEN MOTORCYCLE

On the 31st of March a 1977 dark red Harley Davidson motorcycle with some gold colouring in it was stolen from a residence on Lee Av.
This customized machine was lowered and the Ont. licence number is 6V117.

BREAK & ENTER

Between the 28th and 30th of March, 3 computer systems were stolen from Boart Longyear on Main St. W. These computers are worth approximately $4000.
A possible suspect in this crime is described as:
Male white, in his 20s, 6’3 slim and lanky, dark curly hair and at the time wore a silver or bluish bomber style puffy jacket with a similar coloured ball cap, white runners and carrying a dark backpack.

April 6, 2009

ROBBERY

On the 6th of April shortly after 2 AM it is alleged that 2 men attended Mac’s convenience Store in the 600 block of Cassells St. and produced a hand gun, threatened the lone female clerk and demanded money and cigarettes.
The clerk complied and while one of the males stuffed the cigarettes in a red duffel bag the other held the gun at the clerk.
The suspects are described as the following:
1-male white, 5’8, 150 lbs., late teens to early twenties, and wore a dark jacket with yellow upper sleeves. He also wore a red and white bandana, baseball cap and black fingerless gloves.
2-male, unknown race, in his late teens to early twenties and wore a red pullover covering his head as well as jeans.
They fled the area in an unknown direction. The North Bay Police Emergency Response Team as well as the Ontario Provincial Police K-9 unit attended the scene.
It should also be mentioned that a video is presently being examined by the investigators and there is a possibility of it being released to the media.

ARSON ARREST CORRECTION

On the 4th of April shortly before 2 AM officers of the North Bay Police attended Our Lady of Fatima school on Marshall Av. in regards to a prowler.
The officers arrived and located a man holding an axe and he was immediately arrested.
It was at this time that the officers became aware of a fire within the school and 2 other officers extinguished it.
The North Bay fire Department also attended.
Adam Goulet, 18 years old of Gertrude St. is charged with Arson, Break and Enter and Commit Mischief, Weapon Dangerous and Possession of a Break and Enter Tool. He remains in custody for a bail hearing.

April 6, 2009

On the 4th of April 2009 shortly before 2:00am members of the North Bay Police Service responded to a call at Lady of Fatima school on Marshall Avenue in North Bay, after local residents observed a male knocking on exterior windows, and police were called.

Police attended and located an 18 year old male at the side of the property, who attempted to run away when confronted. The male was holding a hatchet, and arrested at gunpoint after a short foot chase by Constables Bradley and Buchanan.

Officers found forced entry to the school, numerous broken windows, and also located a fire on the floor beside the desk in the main office, created from a pile of books and papers.

Officers used a fire extinguisher to smother the fire, and North Bay Fire Department also attended to ensure the fire was out.

Police believe the male is linked to several other incidents involving previous damage at that school, as well as another incident of previous damage at another school in the area. Detective Constable Brewer of the Service’s Investigative Support Section is continuing the investigation.

The male is presently charged with Break Enter and Commit, Arson, Possession of Weapons Dangerous to the Public, and Possession of Break-In Instruments, and was held for a bail hearing.

Police would like to thank the public for their assistance by calling to police after seeing the male outside the school. Police would also like to add that surveillance video recently installed in the school is also of valuable assistance.

April 8, 2009

ASSAULTS MOTHER

On the 6th of April during the evening hours, it is alleged that during a family argument a 15 year old male assaulted his mother within their home. Cst. Helen Boissonneault of the North Bay Police was called to investigate the matter and arrested the youth.
He is charged with Assault, Mischief (damaging the home), Breach of Probation and Breach of an Undertaking. He remains in custody for a bail hearing.

ASSAULTS WOMAN

On the 7th of April shortly before 1 PM it is alleged that a man became angry with a woman that was known to him and assaulted her. He also held a knife to her that caused cuts to her body.
He fled before Csts. Darcy Wall and Christian Elia from the North Bay Police attended. However the officers located him at a nearby hotel.
Adam MARTIN 23 years old of Oakwood Av. is charged with Assault with a Weapon, Weapons Dangerous, Assault and Breach of Probation. He is being held in custody for a bail hearing.

April 9, 2009

YOUTH PULLS KNIFE ON MOTHER

On the 8th of April during the evening hours it is alleged that a 14 year old became involved in a confrontation with his mother within a North Bay home.
It escalated to the point where this teenager pulled a knife on her, all the while threatening her. She ran into another part of the home for safety and contacted the North Bay Police.
Csts. Darcy Wall and Dave Wilson of our Service attended and located both the youth and the knife nearby.
He is charged with Assault With a Weapon and is to appear in court on the 30th of May.

COMPUTER THIEF CAUGHT

On the 8th of April during the late afternoon hours Det. Csts. Tom Robertson and Richard Hampel of the North Bay Police arrested a suspect in relation to a computer that had been stolen from the Empire Living Centre on the 10th of Feb.
At that time our Service had released a video of the suspect that was caught in the act.
William McBride 29 years old of Oak St. W. is charged with Break & Enter and Breach of Probation. He remains in custody for a bail hearing.

TRUCK STOP FIGHT

On the 8th of April shortly before midnight Csts. Matt Parker and Bruce Whitehead of the North Bay Police were called to a truck stop on Highway 11 North.
At this time it was alleged that a fight had taken place between a man and a woman that were known to each other.
A female had allegedly punched and scratched the man all the while threatening him with death.
The victim received superficial injuries.
Tammy SCOTT 36 years old of Langley British Columbia is charged with Assault and Threatening Death. She remains in custody for a bail hearing.

ERT CALL OUT

On the 9th of April shortly after midnight the North Bay Police Emergency Response Team were called out in the city.
This was after allegations were made by a woman that a man had continue sly made unwanted advances towards her as well as attempting to visit her and her child’s school. During the investigation it was alleged that the man had weapons at home and had threatened harm in the past.
The Emergency Response Team was called out for everyone’s safety and they attended his residence and arrested him without incident.
Christopher MOLNAR 28 years old of Little Down Lane is charged with Criminal Harassment and remains in custody for a bail hearing

WRONG PLACE WRONG TIME

On the 7th of April Cst. John Cook of the North Bay Police had occasion to spot a vehicle being driven by a man that was known to the officer.
This man had allegedly been charged in the past for having stolen plates on a vehicle by this same officer.
The vehicle was pulled over and again it was found that the plates on this vehicle were stolen.
Justin BAUMGARDNER 31 years old of Sandra Av. is charged with Possession of Stolen Property and remains in custody for a bail hearing.

NUMEROUS OCCASIONS

On the 8th of April Det. Csts. Jody deHaas and Denis Levasseur of the Investigative Section in the North Bay Police Service, arrested a man on numerous previous assaults and threats. These allegations were to have occurred over an extended period of time.
Craig McKINLEY 44 years old of Greenhill Av. is charged with 8 Counts of Assault, Criminal Harassment and Uttering Threats. He remains in custody for a bail hearing.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

On the 8th of April at approximately 11:30 PM 2 males attended the rear yard of a home on Nancy St. and shone a flashlight through the window.
They were challenged by the homeowner and the males stated that they were there to check the house for rental purposes then fled.
Both males are described as being in their mid 30s, 5’6 with brown hair.

TEEN RUNS AMOK

On the 10th of April during the evening hours it is alleged that a young male began breaking property within a North Bay home.
Csts. Greg Dix and Ashley St. John of the North Bay Police attended the home and were met by other members of the family that were hiding in another room
The 15 year old youth was located within and arrested.
He is charged with Mischief and is to appear in court on the27th of May.

ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES

On the 11th of April during the evening hours it is alleged that a man who had been standing on a rear porch of a home in the 300 block of Chippewa St. W. was challenged by the female owner.
It is further alleged that this man then commenced to fight with the woman all the while pushing his way in.
The woman’s adult daughter came to intercede and it is then that the attacker turned his attention on the daughter and commenced to choke her. The fight continued while the attackers threatened death to the female being chocked. It is at this time that the male occupant within the home is awoken and came to help his family and began to fight off the intruder while two grandchildren were within the house.
This man was not known to family members.
Officers of the North Bay Police attended and found the attacker still fighting with the male homeowner.
He was arrested after a struggle with the officers.
Mathew GROVE 23 years old of No Fixed Address is charged with Attempted Murder, Assault, and Aggravated Assault, Unlawfully in a Dwelling House, Resist Arrest and Breach of a Recognizance. He is being held in custody for a bail hearing. He is also wanted by the London Police Service on unrelated criminal charges.
Victims were treated for their injuries at the North Bay Hospital and then released.

STARTS WITH STOLEN BIKE

On the 10th of April during the evening hours Csts. Randy Adair and Scott Buchanan and Jeff Warner of the North Bay Police were conducting an investigation into a stolen bicycle.
This investigation led the officers to execute a search warrant on a home in the 800 block of Worthington St. E. in North Bay.
The officers arrested 5 individuals within the residence.
3 adults from North Bay, Powassan and Trout Creek were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and are to attend court at a later time.
Wayne HAMEL 44 years old of Worthington St. E is charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 Counts of Breach of Probation. He was kept in custody for a bail hearing.
Nicole PICHE 38 years old of the same address is charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance and Possession of Stolen property. She also remains in custody for a bail hearing.
It is alleged that morphine and cocaine was seized.

SEAT BELT CAMPAIGN

The North Bay Police Service would like to inform the motoring public that our officers will be taking part in the Provincial Spring Seatbelt Campaign which runs from the 15th to the 26th of April.
Motor vehicle collisions remain a leading cause of injury-related deaths in Ontario. It is estimated that they exact a social cost of $17.9 billion every year. In Ontario, every occupant travelling in a motor vehicle is required to be buckled up properly.
Drivers are responsible for ensuring passengers under the age of 16 are properly secured in a seatbelt, child car seat or booster seat, as required by their height, weight and age.
Drivers and passengers 16 years of age and older convicted of failing to use or improperly using a seatbelt are subject to a $110. fine. Drivers would also have two demerit points applied to their driver record for failing to use, or improperly using, a seatbelt or failing to ensure a passenger under the age of 16 is properly secured.

ARSON

On the13th of April shortly before 9:30 PM Csts. Joe Whitehead and Stacy Jackson of the North Bay Police were patrolling Memorial Dr. when they spotted smoke coming from the area of Regina St.
The officers located a snowplow locomotive with a fire on the seat. It appeared that paper had been place on the seat and then set on fire.
The North Bay Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire. It is unknown at this time what the monetary loss is.

April 20, 2009

WARNING

The North Bay Police Service would like to caution the general public in the following:
Our Service is presently investigating a complaint of safety pins being found in a chocolate bar.
This complaint came into our Service from a citizen of Temiscaming today at 10 AM.
It is alleged that a woman bought a charitable 100 mg. Hershey Almond chocolate bar from a retail business on Main St. W. at approximately 2:30 PM yesterday on the 18th of April.
It is further alleged that when this woman brought the chocolate bar home she pricked her tongue with an open rusted safety pin found within the candy. At this point she inspected the bar closer and found another similar open safety pin within the chocolate itself.
This appears to NOT having been done after the packaging process.
Officers of our Service attended the retail business in North Bay and seized all of the charitable chocolate bars. They were then brought to the North Bay Airport to x ray the candy. None of the remaining chocolate bars were found to contain any metal objects and were returned to the retailer.
Our investigators have contacted the distributor of the chocolate bar for the Charity involved and they have also commenced their own investigation.
Although this might be an isolated instance, our Service would nevertheless caution the general public to verify any product before consuming it.
The adult female complainant did not receive any medical attention in this instance.
The North Bay Police continue to investigate this matter and are working with the distributor towards this effort.

April 20, 2009

BEER ROBBERY

On the 17 April at approximately 9:30 PM it is alleged that a male attacked another male within a North Bay residence. It is then further alleged that this male then stole the victim’s case of beer.
On the 19th of April Cst. Dan Robertson of the North Bay Police arrested a suspect in relation to this incident.
Buckey BELLAIRE 34 years old of No Fixed Address is charged with Robbery and Assault With a Weapon (to whit brandishing a knife).

CUT WITH KNIFE

On the 18th of April during the evening hours it is alleged that a small group of people attended a residence within the city and attempted to get some belongings.
An argument ensued and it is alleged that a man then pulled a knife, slashed at a male victim and threatened him with bodily harm.
It is also alleged that a female attacked a resident with a piece of wood and flashlight as well as broke a window.
Officers of the North Bay Police responded and to arrested the attackers on Trout Lake Road.
Joseph FILLION 54 years old of Fisher St. is charged with Assault With a Weapon and Uttering Threats. He is to appear in court at a later date.
Laura DEROCHE 31 years old also of Fisher St. is charged with Assault With a Weapon and Mischief. She is to attend court at a later date.

ATTEMPTED MURDER

On the 17th of April shortly before midnight it is alleged that a man broke a window to a home on Michener Dr. and entered the residence.
Once inside a fight ensued where the attacker begins to choke a male resident and threatens to kill him.
Csts. Dix and Taylor attended the home and subdued the attacker with pepper spray.
Michael HENDERSON 24 years old of Michener Dr. is charged with Attempt murder and Break & Enter. He was held for a bail hearing.

HOLDS FAMILY AT KNIFE POINT

On the 19th of April during the evening hours it is alleged that a man held a family at bay with a knife within a North Bay home.
Csts. Bill Gainforth and Steve Trahan of the North Bay Police attended and arrested the man.
Andrew VOSSEN 21 years old of Athlone St. is charged with Weapons Dangerous, Threatening and Mischief. He is being held for a bail hearing.

April 21, 2009

The public is reminded that the 2009 Spring Seatbelt Campaign continues until the end of the week. Members of the North Bay Police Service will be continuing with their efforts in determining and enforcing seatbelt usage by motorists in Callander and North Bay.

The Campaign, which commenced on the 15th of April 2009 and is concentrating on proper seatbelt and child restraint usage, has resulted in a number of drivers and passengers being charged with failing to properly wear a seatbelt.

EXTORTION

On the 21st of April during the evening hours a man attended the North Bay Police station to deal with an ongoing investigation.
Cst. Dan Robertson of our Service culminated this investigation and the male in question has been charged.
Robert CORRIVEAU 49 years old of Centennial Cr. is charged with Extortion, Disguise With Intent, Obstruct, Mischief and Breach of Recognizance.
This investigation has been ongoing for a period of time.
Mr. CORRIVEAU has been kept in custody for a bail hearing.

DEFRAUDING WELFARE

Between July 2007 and July 2008 it is alleged that a man defrauded Ontario Works for over $5000.
The investigation culminated on the 21st of April when Det. Cst. Denis Levasseur of the North Bay Police charged the suspect in question.
Remi POITRAS 29 years old of Main St. W. is charged with Fraud Over $5000. and is to appear in court on the 2nd of June.

CAUTION—SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

Approximately one week ago a 9 year old boy was approached by a man in a vehicle near the entrance of Rivers Rd. (near Highway 11 south) in Callander.
At this time it is alleged that the male driver attempted to lure the boy within the vehicle and offered him a ride to school.
It is then that the boy’s school bus arrived and the driver left.
Several days later the boy told his mother of this incident and a short time after that, this same vehicle was seen near the driveway of this same home.
It appears that this same vehicle has been seen in the general area over the past 2 months.
This last time that the vehicle was seen, a male with long hair to his shoulders was sitting as a front passenger.
The vehicle in question is described as black with no front plate and might possibly be a Mustang.
The driver is described as male white, in his late 20s to early 30s, long dark hair with a couple of day’s growth of facial hair.

ROBBERY

On the 22nd of April at approximately 1:20 AM it is alleged that a man attended Mac’s Convenience store in the 600 block of Main St. E.
At this time the man brandished a hunting style knife and demanded money. Once he received some he thanked the clerk and fled down Oak St. towards the Overpass. Numerous officers as well as the Ontario Provincial Police Canine Unit attended but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.
The male is described as white, 6’ tall, 20 to 25 years old, slim build and approximately 160 lbs. At the time he wore a brown hooded sweatshirt, dark cargo pants and a dark blue coloured bandana over his face.
The knife had a wooden or brown coloured handle.

DEFRAUDS EMPLOYER

On the 22nd of April Det. Cst. Denis Levasseur culminated his investigation into an employee fraud in North Bay.
It is alleged that a male employee of a local company defrauded his employer between Jan. and Feb. 2009 of over $18,000.
Jacob ZUFELT 24 years old of Arnold Dr. in Tilden Lake is charged with Fraud Over $5000. And Fraud Under $5000.
He is to appear in court on the 2nd of June.

The North Bay Police Service would like to caution the General Public regarding a recent fraud complaint that our Service has received.
The fraud is related to a job posting for a Business Service Analyst for the Madison Group of Mississauga Ontario. The job applicant receives a cheque and is asked to cash the cheque, keeping a small fee. The job applicant is then asked to advance the remainder of the money using the Moneygram Service to a fictitious relative in the U.K.
The public should be aware that theses cheques are fraudulent and will eventually be returned as such and the job applicant will be responsible for the loss with their financial institution.
If anyone has received a fraudulent cheque as a result of this application, they are asked to contact the North Bay Police Service’s Fraud Coordinator Detective Constable Denis Levasseur at 497-5555.

ASSAULT WITH BOTTLE

On the 23rd of April during the afternoon hours Csts. Steve Taylor and Greg Dix of the North Bay Police attended a residence within the city in regards to an assault.
It is alleged that a man known to a woman struck her in the head with a bottle.
The officers arrived and arrested a suspect in relation to this incident.
Bill EWIN 41 years old of No Fixed Address is charged with Assault With a Weapon and remains in custody for a bail hearing.

STOLEN AUTO

Overnight on the 21st of April someone stole a 4 door 2000 silver Honda Civic from a driveway of a home in the 200 block of Parsons Av.
The Ont. licence plate is AFVW232.
The owners only became aware of it being missing several days later.

April 27, 2009

VIOLENT MAN

On the 25th of April Csts. Steve Taylor and Dan Shepstone of the North Bay Police arrested a male in relation to various complaints of assault against a woman over several months.
This woman is known to the male.
Michael Kevin GRAHAM 33 years old of Van Horn Cr. is charged with 2 Counts of Assault, Assault With a Weapon, Threatening and Forcible Confinement.
He is being held for a bail hearing.

April 27, 2009

On the 22nd of April our Service reported that the Mac’s Convenience store in the 600 block of Main St. E had been robbed at knifepoint by a lone male.
Our investigators now have several photographs of the suspect.

ANGER

On the 27th of April during the afternoon hours it is alleged that a woman attended Ontario Works at City Hall and threatened the staff with bodily harm.
Csts. Marc Ethier and Seth Dinsmore of the North Bay Police attended the scene and arrested a suspect.
Edith MURRAY 47 years old of Church St. in Bonfield is charged with Uttering Threats and remains in custody for a bail hearing.

VEHICLE DRUG STOP

On the 28th of April during the evening hours, officers of the North Bay Police Service stopped a vehicle on Worthington St.
The officers found a quantity of marijuana and cocaine within the vehicle and arrested various occupants.
Kasey DRINKWATER 19 years old of Athlone St. is charged with Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Marijuana.
A 16 year old female is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and is to appear in court on the 10th of June.
Edward GOODYEAR 21 years old of Highway 63 is charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Cocaine and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is to appear in court on the 9th of June.
Joshua CHICQUEN 20 years old of Old Highway 11 is charged with Possession of Marijuana for the Purpose of Trafficking and 2 Counts of a Controlled Substance. He is to appear in court on the 9th of June.

ON RAIL LINE

On the 28th of April at approximately 11 PM a woman stood on the rail tracks in the West Ferris area of the city.
A passing train was forced to stop and the woman was told to leave. However due to a concern by the engineer the train did not continue and Csts. Steve Trahan and Sue Solman of our Service were called to the scene and located a suspect nearby.
Kassandra BOND-BOLTON 18 years old of No Fixed Address is charged with Mischief, Breach of Probation and Trespass Under the Railway Safety Act.
She is being held in custody for a bail hearing.
